Artist Statement, 2010

This year I have investigated two different themes. Most recently, I let my travels to Japan inform my work. Through a number of coincidences the temple gardens had a significant impact on me and I returned to Adelaide with a need to paint the blossom and gardens. The earlier works are a continuation from the still life theme I embarked on in 2009. However, I decided to paint objects with a twist whereby I tested the power of the silhouette to define an object. Rather than a solid silhouette, I’ve utilized other related objects to fill the silhouette – inherent in this is the notion that when objects are often seen together the forms start to blend/cross over.

Artist Bio

Joanna Poulson is an Adelaide based artist who has been exhibiting regularly since 2005. Her focus on Visual Art was truly reinvigorated whilst completing a short course at Adelaide Central School of Art (ACSA) in 2003, which lead to her career change from full time IT Project Management to full time study at ACSA. Joanna's dedication and artwork has been recognised through commission prizes, grants and awards in South Australia. Since obtaining her Associate Degree she has established a studio in Prospect.
